7 Famous Temples in Mumbai You Should Visit

If you’ve ever lived in Mumbai or even visited it for a few days, you’ll know that this city has a bit of everything. It’s fast, noisy, crowded, and full of life. But in the middle of all this madness, there are some peaceful places too. I’m talking about temples. Whether you believe in God or not, some temples in Mumbai are worth visiting—not just for religious reasons, but for the experience, the history, and the old-world charm.

In this post, I’ll tell you about 7 famous temples in Mumbai that I think you should visit at least once. Some are very old, some are in busy areas, but all of them have something special.

1. Siddhivinayak Temple – Prabhadevi

Let me start with the most famous one. If you live in Mumbai, you already know this place. Even if you don’t, chances are you’ve heard about Siddhivinayak Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, and people from all over the world come here to pray.

It’s believed that if you make a wish here, it comes true. That’s why you’ll see film stars, cricketers, businessmen—everyone visiting this temple, especially on Tuesdays. The temple is very clean and well-managed. But I’ll be honest, the queue can be very long, especially on weekends and Tuesdays. So try to go early in the morning.

Address: S.K. Bole Marg, Prabhadevi, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Dadar (Western and Central Line)
Timings: 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM

2. Mumbadevi Temple – Bhuleshwar

This temple is the reason why Mumbai got its name. Mumbadevi is the goddess of Mumbai. That itself makes this temple special. It’s not a fancy-looking place, but it’s old and full of history. It was built in the 14th century. The idol of the goddess is very simple—she doesn’t have fancy clothes or jewels. That’s what I like about it.

The temple is in a very busy area, right in the heart of Bhuleshwar market. So if you plan to go, be ready to walk a bit. You won’t get parking easily.

Address: Mumbadevi Road, Bhuleshwar, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Charni Road or Marine Lines (Western Line)
Timings: 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM

3. Babulnath Temple – Near Girgaon Chowpatty

If you want to visit a peaceful Shiva temple in the middle of the city, this one is perfect. The Babulnath Temple is located near Girgaon Chowpatty, but once you go inside, it feels like you’re in a different world. It’s quiet, clean, and the view from the top is very nice.

You’ll have to climb a few steps to reach the main temple, but it’s worth it. During Maha Shivratri, this place is packed. Otherwise, on regular days, it’s calm and not too crowded.

Address: Babulnath Road, Malabar Hill, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Charni Road (Western Line)
Timings: 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM

4. Mahalakshmi Temple – Mahalakshmi

This temple is located near the sea, and the view is just beautiful. Mahalakshmi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. It also has idols of Saraswati and Kali. People say that this temple is especially powerful when it comes to money matters.

One thing I love about this temple is that it’s right on the edge of the sea. During high tide, the water comes very close. The temple has a long stone staircase, and there are small shops on both sides where you can buy flowers and prasad.

Address: Bhulabhai Desai Road, Mahalakshmi, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Mahalakshmi (Western Line)
Timings: 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM

5. Walkeshwar Temple – Banganga, Malabar Hill

Now this one is very unique. Walkeshwar Temple is built near the Banganga Tank. This place has a strong connection with Ramayana. People believe that Lord Rama stopped here during his journey to Lanka and created this water tank by shooting an arrow into the ground.

The temple is old, peaceful, and has a lovely vibe. The Banganga Tank next to it is something you won’t expect to find in South Mumbai. It’s like a small ghat, and even though it’s in the city, it feels like a small town. Great place if you want peace and history.

Address: Walkeshwar Road, Malabar Hill, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Charni Road or Grant Road (Western Line)
Timings: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM

6. ISKCON Temple – Juhu

ISKCON Kharghar

If you want to see a modern temple with a calm environment, ISKCON Temple is the one. It’s dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is big, very clean, and has a lot of activities going on—bhajans, aarti, yoga sessions, and spiritual talks.

I’ve been here many times. It’s peaceful inside, even though it’s close to the busy Juhu area. The temple also has a Govinda’s restaurant that serves pure veg food. Very tasty and very clean. If you go in the evening, attend the aarti. It’s very peaceful and nice.

Address: Hare Krishna Land, Juhu, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Andheri (Western Line)
Timings: 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM

7. Swaminarayan Mandir – Bhuleshwar

This temple is another gem in the crowded lanes of South Mumbai. It’s a beautiful structure, very clean, and well-maintained. It’s managed by the Swaminarayan Trust and is known for discipline and peace. The white marble and the carvings inside are just beautiful. It’s not a place just for prayer—you actually feel calm just by sitting here.

There are separate areas for men and women during certain aartis, so be mindful of that. The temple also has a guesthouse for devotees who come from outside the city.

Address: Vithalbhai Patel Road, Bhuleshwar, Mumbai
Nearest Station: Charni Road or Marine Lines (Western Line)
Timings: 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Summary

So these are the seven temples in Mumbai that I think you should visit. Each one is different. Some are famous, some are hidden gems. But all of them give you something—peace, positivity, and a break from the fast city life. I’ve been to all of them, and every time I go, I come back feeling lighter. You don’t have to be very religious to visit these places. Sometimes, just sitting in a temple and doing nothing also helps clear your mind.

If you’re new to Mumbai, or even if you’ve lived here all your life, take out a day or two and visit these temples. Trust me, you’ll enjoy the experience. If you’ve already been to some of them or want to know about more such places, let me know in the comments. I’d love to share more spots with you.
